Launch Monitor FAQs

What launch monitor is best for me?

Choosing your launch monitor is likely the most important decision you can make for your golf game over the next few years.

We don’t take that decision lightly and neither should you. That’s why we have put together this guide to help you zero in on the key decision points when deciding on your golf launch monitor such as:

  • Price
  • Indoor & Outdoor Performance
  • Golf Simulation Ready
  • Data Points & Features Provided
  • Overall Accuracy of the Units
What is a golf launch monitor?

A launch monitor is a device that leverages technology to read a golf ball and in some cases, the club during an actual golf shot.

These devices will read things like ball speed, club head speed, face angle, spin rates, and much more. In many cases, these metrics will be run through a software program to simulate what that ball would have done in an actual ballflight.

How much space do I need for a launch monitor?

The answer to this question is simple for a Photometric launch monitor, which is just enough room to swing a club!

If you have a radar based launch monitor, most units will typically require 8-10 feet of ball flight for optimal performance.

Overall, we feel comfortable recommending at least 9' ceilings and a 12' x 12' room for a photometric launch monitor, and 16' of depth for a radar based launch monitor.

How does a launch monitor work?

Launch monitors utilize a measurement technology, sometimes cameras, sometimes doppler radar, and sometimes infrared sensors (sometimes all of the above!)

This technology will hone in on the speed, spin rates, and dozens of other factors of a golf shot and provide a data set of what that ball would have done in the air.
