One of the most common questions about setting up a golf simulator is regarding the amount of space that is required for installing a simulator. In general, if you have enough space to swing your longest club, then you have just about enough space for a golf simulator.
The minimum space required to set up most golf simulators is 10'W x 10'L x 8.5'H. Things like player height and arm length can factor into how much space is required. If you are a shorter player, then you might be able to get away with a slightly shorter ceiling. If you don't mind being slightly claustrophobic then you may be ok with a setup that is only 8' wide. But having at least 9'-10' of length is recommended.
You have to keep in mind that even if you have enough space to make a full swing, you need space for your hitting net, then you need an extra 1'-2' between your net and the wall. As the ball hits the net it will give way slightly. If your net is too close to your wall then you will end up with a nice hole in the wall!
For some visual aid, here are a few different types of setup options with their corresponding space requirement:
For this section, we have decided to break up our size recommendations into three specific room types - Compact, Mid-Size, and Large. Keep in mind that although our recommendations may work for most golfers out there, be sure to make full swings in your space to ensure you feel comfortable with the room you intend to put a golf simulator in.
In this category, we'd consider a room that is 8' - 9' high, 10' - 12' wide, and about 12' long. Although this is pretty small in the world of golf simulators, having a sim in this space is definitely still possible.
You will definitely want to look for a launch monitor that does not have any space requirements itself in order to get the most out of this size of room. Some of our favorites in this category would include a GCQuad, a GC3, or a SkyTrak+.
More often than not, we see these types of simulator setups being installed into a spare garage spot, or even in a basement with lower ceilings.
In this category, we'd consider a room that is 9' - 10' high, 12' - 14' wide, and about 16' long. Mainly due to the increased depth, this room size opens you up to the world of radar launch monitors and larger screen sizes paired with them.
You really won't be limited in your choice of launch monitor in this room size. You can obviously still choose some of our favorites listed above, but now you are able to shop for radar systems like Mevo+ and Full Swing Kit as well.
This size golf simulator will be perfect for a bonus room, larger basement, or spare bedroom.
In this category, we'd consider a room that is 10' high, 15+' wide, and 20' long. If you have this much space, simply put, the world is your oyster with our selection of golf simulators.
When it comes to our golf simulator offerings, you can consider everything we offer if you have this amount of space. Taking into account other factors like budget and your preference in launch monitors, you can consider any enclosure as acceptable for your space.
